Sanum Jawaid Khan – Assistant Headteacher
Sanum is an experienced secondary teacher and leader of RS, PSHE and Citizenship. She has worked in state secondary schools for over 15 years and contributes regularly to the wider world of education. As a speaker, she is often described as being relatable, informed and open with her experience and expertise. She focuses on offering participants research and evidence informed development that is studded with practical tips and reflections. Sanum is also a qualified coach (Level 5 NQUAL, Distinction) and has a particular interest in supporting marginalised individuals in finding their confidence and purpose in their work. She has experience in organisational coaching and her line management of both teaching and non-teaching staff members positions her well for supporting diverse teams (of experience, characteristic and thought). Under her current leadership, the school has been awarded local awards for student leadership and for wellbeing and inclusion. She is a Senior Mental Health Lead, DSL and has completed her NPQSL. What Sanum offers CPD delivery Sanum delivers CPD on issues of belonging and inclusion. This has recently included issues of racial trauma, writing a DEI action plan, the underperformance of Pakistani boys and using student voice effectively whilst also maintaining a responsibility to safeguarding and student wellbeing. She can deliver to whole school teams as well as workshops with smaller groups. She has also delivered training for PGCE students at Kings’ College London and actively contributes to the trainee program at her current Trust. Sanum is available for keynote presentations which are tailored to the specific needs of the event/organisation. Podcasts She is keen to discuss issues with peers and share best practice. She has featured on the Schools Should Be Podcast, SecEd and The RE Podcast. Writing Sanum writes articles of best practice (eg SecEd) and book reviews (eg Schools Week). She has also been published in a Routledge publication on ethnicity and schools and has a chapter in 2026 book on the role of the form tutor.
