Call for Papers
Fourth and Final ‘Race’ and Socially Engaged Research Conference
Our Call for Papers is open for the fourth and final annual ‘Race’ and Socially Engaged Research Conference. This interdisciplinary PGR-led conference is for researchers in the early career stages who conduct critical research pertaining to ‘race’, racialisation, racism, in a socially engaged, liberatory and/or transformative manner. This event is an opportunity to share research and scholar-activism in an accessible, ‘safe’ and critical space that centres community, joy and resistance.
The theme for this year’s conference is Resistance, Global Solidarities and Imagining Otherwise. It is scheduled to take place on Friday 3rd July 2026 at the Law and Sociology Building (LMB), University of York, followed by an optional evening reception which will include reflections from 2 keynote speakers. The form for our call for papers and posters/visual displays can be found here.
The deadline for abstracts is 6th April 2026 (5pm, GMT). The fee for this year’s conference is £30pp, fee waivers are available on a first come first served basis.
If those interested in submitting for the conference would like more information about who we are and the work we do, please do take a look at our website and social media, or feel free to drop us an email to antiracismworkinggroup@gmail.com.

Review Support
We are seeking support from 3 postgraduate (masters or PhD) students from social science and/or arts and humanities backgrounds to form part of our review board for the fourth and final ‘Race’ and Social Research: Postgraduate and Early Careers Conference, which will take place on Friday 3rd July 2026 at the University of York. The role will involve reading through all paper and exhibition submissions independently and attending an in-person 2-hour review meeting in late April/early May 2025.
All review board participants will be eligible for free registration (usually £30) to the conference as a delegate, and are also more than welcome to apply to present/exhibit their research using this call for papers form. If you would like to find out more about the conference, please have a look at our website here.If you are interested, please contact antiracismworkinggroup@gmail.com with an updated CV and a max.100-word cover statement highlighting why you would like to support the review process and any relevant experience. Conference Support
We are also seeking support on the 3rd July 2026 from volunteers who would like to support the day-to-day running of the conference. This will likely include one or two of the following:
- Support with conference set up and clear up.
- Support with registration.
- Chairing a panel, roundtable or workshop.
- Delegate support (i.e. directing to workshop/presenting rooms, support finding prayer facilities, etc).
All conference volunteers are expected to be available for the fully day. Volunteers will be eligible for free registration (usually £30) to the conference as a delegate, and are also more than welcome to apply to present/exhibit their research using the call for papers form. On the day, tasks will be divided equally amongst the small team of volunteers and we will do our best to allocate based on preference (i.e. if there is a particular workshop that you would like to attend, we will do our best to ensure that you are not allocated a role during this time).
If you are interested, please contact antiracismworkinggroup@gmail.com with an updated CV and a max. 100-word cover statement highlighting why you would like to support the conference and any relevant experience. The deadline for applications is 10th April.—
