Miss Kiran Satti – Deputy Principal, National Curriculum for Early Reading

Kiran Satti is an accomplished Primary Leader, Deputy Principal, and Literacy/Reading Specialist working within UK education. Her work centres on children’s rights, reading for pleasure, gender equity, and inclusive storytelling, with a strong commitment to ensuring that every child experiences the joy and empowerment that comes from reading.

Kiran is widely recognised for her advocacy of diverse and alternative fairytales, promoting books that challenge stereotypes and broaden children’s understanding of identity, culture, and lived experiences. Her work often focuses on representation, immigration, and refugee narratives, helping young learners connect with stories that reflect real-world diversity.

In 2023, she was awarded the UKLA Farshore Reading for Pleasure Award, recognising her outstanding impact on developing a rich reading culture and championing inclusive, child‑centred literacy practices.

Kiran is also a Network Leader for WomenEd, co‑leading the @WomenEdBookclub and contributing to regional and national leadership conversations. She is a sought‑after speaker who has presented at major education events including the Festival of Education, Pedagoo, WomenEd Unconferences, BrewEds, and Open University workshops, covering themes such as empowering fiction for girls, diversity and inclusion, and reading‑for‑pleasure pedagogy.

Her work extends into advocacy and thought leadership, including her contribution to WomenEd’s Disruptive Women publication, where she explores how gendered norms shape identity and safeguarding, and how empowering narratives can help girls redefine leadership – the Building on Barbie Leadership Project.

Kiran is also a Network Leader for WomenEd and leads the @WomenEdBookclub, contributing widely to national conversations on women’s leadership and equity in education. She has spoken at major events including the Festival of Education, Pedagoo, WomenEd Unconferences, BrewEd, and Open University reading‑for‑pleasure forums. Alongside this, she has collaborated with Just Imagine as a children’s book reviewer and supports literacy research communities across the UK, including Twinkl Education. 

She was previously shortlisted for the Rising Star Award (2020), further highlighting her leadership, advocacy, and commitment to transforming reading experiences for all children.
