For the best part of the last six months I have had the opportunity of delivering workshops to a number of organisations across the corporate and third sector about how they can start a long overdue conversation about race in the workplace.
BRAVE Conversations: Talking about Race, is the name of the series I have been running. It has been challenging and for some has been quite disarming too, not just for my clients but for me too. There were a number of assumptions I had made about knowledge and experience on these matters that I had to readdress. I also had to exercise a lot of patience with those who didn’t want to talk about it or didn’t even see it as a problem.
As with all culture change programmes the purpose has been to encourage a sense that people in companies own a part of shaping how that culture change programme rolls out.
