SUMMARY:Courageous conversations about race: curriculum design and decolonisation
DESCRIPTION:This academic year\, we’re facilitating a series of courageous conversations about race. You can catch-up on previous conversations. \n\n\n\nAhead of each event\, we’ve collected videos\, research and reading to prompt reflection and we ask you to engage with these here. \n\n\n\nThe third session in our courageous conversations series\, taking place on Tuesday 22 October\, will be in conversation with a group of panellists with experience of curriculum design and delivery: \n\n\n\n\nLiz Pemberton has a rich background in nursery education and is Director of The Black Nursery Manager\nBen Mearhart is Deputy Headteacher at Gordon Children’s Academy and team member at The Black Curriculum\nDomini Leong is Deputy Headteacher at Cotham School and chair of the BAMEed Bristol & SW Hub\n\n\n\n\nA key part of the journey towards becoming an anti-racist institution\, is to look at curriculum. Much thought goes into a school curriculum in terms of sequencing\, key skills and knowledge\, building towards exams and more. How do we create a curriculum that is inclusive and tells the true story of the British experience and that prepares our students to be global citizens? \n\n\n\nThe session will be a discussion between members of The BAMEed Network and the panellists\, drawing on questions from the session participants online. Each session will be recorded and all ticket holders will receive the link to this after the event.

SUMMARY:Diverse Leaders - Leadership Interview Preparation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Diverse Leaders programme – cohort 2. \nFollowing the success of our 2017-18 cohort we are running our DFE Diversity Grant funded leadership development programme again in 2018-19. \nThis leadership development programme is subsidised to empower more BAME teachers to lead. \n10 full days of training 9.30-4.00pm in Oxfordshire. \nWe have a brilliant line up of speakers and faciltators to inspire you. \nTestimonials from our 1st cohort of BAME teachers and leaders: \n“Hands down the best CPD program you will go on. I can say unequivocally without the diverse leaders program and the continued support from wonderful additions to my network I would not have achieved promotion to senior leadership.” Pran Patel\, AHT and Diverse Leaders graduate from cohort 1. \n“The Diverse Leaders Programme has been pivotal in transforming my outlook\, attitude and confidence as a BAME professional. In truth\, at the start of the programme I was not necessarily seeking promotion yet by the end of the programme I felt empowered to seek it and take it! Internalising lessons learnt throughout the programme was the catalyst for my going on to receive two cumulative promotions in the space of two years- and I will soon be seeking my third! Diverse Leaders helped me to realise that the glass ceiling above me was largely self-imposed. The programme gave me the tools to acknowledge and address barriers that held up that glass ceiling. I would highly recommend people to attend this course- it is the best CPD I have ever experienced- one that has literally changed my life”. Sana Bokhari\, SENCO and Diverse Leaders graduate from cohort 1. \n“Diverse Leaders was the opportunity I needed to help grow my potential. After securing my first promotion\, nearly a year beforehand\, it was the kickstart I needed to pursue my goals in Leadership. The programme gave me a huge sense of self-worth and it opened my eyes to the type of leader I was… and the type I wanted to be. By the end\, I had transformed from someone who was unsure and not very confident on the inside; to someone who was self-assured\, worthy and a new Head of Department! It also gave me a wonderful new network of colleagues and friends who I am grateful to have met!” Genevieve Bent\, Head of Science and Diverse Leaders graduate from cohort 1. \nDay 9: Friday 18th January 2019 – Carol Jones and Cheryl Day Leadership Interview Preparation \nDay 10: Wednesday 30th January 2019 – Viv Grant Diverse Leadership Reflections and Graduation \nFurther information: \nYou need to identify as being #BAMEed to be able to access this training. \nEach session has a £20 non-refundable deposit or you can pay £100 to secure a place in all of the workshops. \nYou will receive high quality leadership training that will inspire and empower you. \nYou will receive a book bag of inspiration leadership books to frame your thinking. \nYou will receive a reflection journal to capture your learning in. \nYou will also receive a free ticket to the Diverse Educators II conference on Saturday 12th January 2019. \nYou will develop an amazing network of #BAMEed educators and allies. \nYou just need to book your place. Clear your diary. Book your travel. Come with an open mindset ready to reflect\, to learn and to grow. \nContact Hannah Wilson wilsonh@glfschools.org for more information

SUMMARY:The Annual Equality Lecture: Professor Kalwant Bhopal
DESCRIPTION:Social justice\, exclusion and white privilege in universities \n\nThe eighth annual lecture is delivered by Kalwant Bhopal\, Professor of Education and Social Justice\, University of Birmingham. The lecture examines recent evidence on the representation of BME staff and students in higher education to explore how racism\, exclusion and marginalisation continue to disadvantage these groups.Professor Kalwant Bhopal uses empirical research which explores BME academic flight from higher education to suggest ways forward for the inclusion of BME focusing on issues of equity and social justice. SUMMARY:Diverse Leaders - Making the Leap with Jill Berry #BAMEed
\nDay 6: Tuesday 2nd October 2018 – Dr Jill Berry Making the Leap – Leadership Transitions \nDay 7: Saturday 10th November 2018 – Allana Gay and Pran PatelOutward-Facing Leadership \nDay 8: Friday 7th December 2018 – Angela Browne Finding Your Leadership Fit \nDay 9: Friday 18th January 2019 – Carol Jones and Cheryl Day Leadership Interview Preparation \nDay 10: Wednesday 30th January 2019 – Viv Grant Diverse Leadership Reflections and Graduation \nFurther information: \nYou need to identify as being #BAMEed to be able to access this training.
